  1. Hi. great collections, i used some time sweet date, it is a best theme for sure.
Also see many sites with huge loads and it is works fine.

  2. hello, it seems buddypres is so good for social network, how many people can it accomodate?

    1. There are no defined limits in buddypress, it all comes down to how much you hosting can handle. Obviously, you won’t be able to host the next Facebook on shared hosting you pay $60 a year. If you have a decent setup that you can scale any time, then few millions visitors will be a piece of cake to handle.

I have seen loads of very huge community and social networking sites built using BuddyPress and you should look into it for sure. It is the best available social networking tool available today and it is completely open source.

  3. when i use buddypress, can other companys advertise on my website so as to make money?

    1. You can monetize your social network or community website using various options, such as banner ads, paid membership, paid premium functionality etc. All above listed themes does support ads such as Adsense, BidVertiser, BuySellAds and any other regular text or banner ads. Theses themes are ready to become the next money making machine for you and anyone else who sees opportunity in social networking and community websites.

  4. Nice Article,

In other hand i need some more features together than the ones you posted here.
For example i will need a Magazine, Marketplace ( multi vendor ) , community and events, is there any with all this features already ?

    Thanks
    Rob

    1. Rob,

      Thank you for your comment!
All themes listed above can handle magazine and community functionality as this is their main purpose. For events you can use plugin such as this one as it will work well with any theme.
The tricky part here is Marketplace and to make it even worse you need multi vendor marketplace. This is something no theme listed above can handle by default (there are no such theme yet available for WordPress. Yet?). However, there are plugins that can help you with this. Personally I am aware of this plugin but probable there are some other plugin that works the same way. This plugin is compatible with BuddyPress, so it will work with all themes that you can see above.

Also there is a very active community around WPMU DEV, (developers for e-Commerce plugin I mentioned above) that will help to tweak your website, so you will get covered with that.

Good luck with creating your community driven website and please let me know if you have any other questions about these or any other WordPress themes listed on Colorlib.

    2. You might also look into these tutorials. It shows exactly what you are looking for. Tutorials are also based on WordPress and BuddyPress for community management.

  5. Am I right to assume DynamiX is your best choice? Since I noticed it has almost everything – Buddypress, bbpress, woocommerce, and its responsive as well.. and that’s what I’d choose also.
Or can you narrow your choices down to 3 for me?
    Thanks!

  6. magnus bozell says:

    Hi
Helpful article and interesting to go through comments and replies.
I am looking for a theme where i can host a blog network such as Plexus, but without having bloggers go to backend. IOW that they blog through a front end form that allows for pics, vids, Youtube and other video sites etc.
I have looked at Facepress but it is not responsive on mobile and does’nt have floating menu like DynamiX.
I am trying to build a site for fishing with hosted blogging, a community, ads space, e-commerce, reviews etc.
Any ideas for themes that should Suite my needs?

    1. Magnus,

There are very limited selection of themes with frontend editing and content submissions. However, you can use any of above listed BuddyPress themes and combine it with some frontend publishing plugin. There are plenty of options available just pick one that you like better.

    2. marion buur says:

      Hi Magnus,
I am looking exactly the same as in your reply.
Did you find what you were looking for?
Hope to hear from you. Kind regards
      Marion

      1. Marion,

Nothing much has changed since and you still need to use 3rd partly plugins for frontend submission. The good news are that there are plenty of free plugins for that.

  7. John Divramis says:

Nice themes, and l am about to start a community forum theme with buddy. l am doing my research instead of using buddy to move to buddyboss.

    What do you think?

    1. John,

BuddyBoss is a theme developer behind several best selling BuddyPress WordPress themes. They still use the same WordPress + BuddyPress combination for their themes and very similar to most other BuddyPress themes listed above. They will function in a similar manner but are styled differently.

Let me know if you have any other question about BuddyPress themes.

  8. Thanks for giving such an impressive information. I am planning to start my own social network site.I am willing to know that which one is the best theme you will recommend which suits best to start my own social network site?

    1. Talha,

All of above listed themes are powered by BuddyPress which means that all of them are meant to create social networks. That’s the main purpose of all of these themes. You can feel the one that you like the most and just go with it.

My personal favorite theme is KLEO and we have wrote a detailed review for this theme. It is also the most popular BuddyPress theme ever released.

  9. Sharley Peron says:

    Thanks for the info Aigars!

I´m planning to start a writer´s comunity for co-creation projects and I´d like to know which theme would work better with a project management plugin. What do you think?

    1. Sharley,

Project management plugin is separate from WordPress themes which means that any theme will work the same way. It also runs on backend and not frontend which means that there aren’t any custom styling applied and switching from one theme to another will make your project management plugin look the same and function the same. Therefore you can feel free to choose the theme you like the most from design perspective and it will get the job done for you with ease.

  10. Rob Truslove says:

Hi! Thanks for writing this fantastic post! Hopefully you can help me…

I want to create a blogging community. So, I’m looking for a responsive WordPress theme that allows people to create profiles and then let’s them create blog posts from the front-end of the website. And by blog posts I mean – add images, tags, etc. – not just a piece of text. Do you know if any of these themes allow that?

P.S. It would be ideal if there was also a way to monetize the memberships and a way to show which blog posts are the most popular too, if possible.

    Thanks!

    1. Hello Rob,

      Thank you for your question!

BuddyPress is much more than just a multi-author blog. It is a fully working social network with messaging, status updates (Twitter style messages), images, videos, articles, groups and much more. In your case I believe that it is much more than you need.

Since you are looking to create multi-author, user driver blog/magazine then you might want to choose a different approach. First of all I would recommend to choose a regular WordPress blog theme such as these. Then combine it with frontend blog post submission plugin such as this one. There are plenty of other plugins as well and you can feel free to choose any of those. Authors will not have a dedicated profile pages but they will have author bio page with social links and other URLs if needed.

BuddyPress themes might work for you too but I don’t think that you need it in this case. Let me know if I am missing something obvious.

    1. Hello Andy!

Thank you for reporting it! We have since removed DynamiX from this list.
If you see other broken links or mistakes on our articles, please let us know.

  11. I personally love klein.. Its so easy and simple to use.. And fast tooo.. Kleo kinda loads slowly for me.. So i decided to use klein instead.. Salutation is great too!

    1. I’m new to wordpress and I’m kind of upset I purchased Kleo, it’s very slow on my end as well and it has only 1 user right now (admin). Definitely not the performance I expected.

  12. Govind Rai says:

I plan to start an intranet website that should be fun and have features of social media website such as FB. I am confused which one will be best for it.

The other function that I am looking for in the theme is that of an e-learning system where in I can put some educational material related to job. Employees should be able to learn and then give exams. The exams that they give should publish on the website as well.

Is there any template or plugin you would recommend?

    1. Govind,

You should go with Social Learner theme which is compatible with Sensei and LearnDash learning management systems. Which means that you can have a social platform based on WordPress in combination with BuddyPress and one of the LMS systems mentioned above. Everything is already optimized and you just need to start using it.

  13. Nice themes, and l did my research instead and found out one community is the best, are there any free themes available.

  14. I am looking to use One Community for a sporting community site and want to add a results and fixtures plugin.
1-Any suggestions on a simple plugin?
2-If a plugin is added can it be installed in such a way that every member that joins our site will be able to upload their own upcoming fixtures and results per week within their own profile?

    1. Rickard,

Unfortunately, I haven’t used any such plugin myself therefore I don’t have anything that I could recommend. It is a very tiny niche plugin that is unlikely to exist because plugin developers tend to solve “popular problems” that will be helpful for thousands if not millions of users.

  15. Does buddypress make the enfold theme unresponsive?

    1. Tohid,

No it does not. Enfold is mobile friendly, responsive and so is BuddyPress. Combining those two things together won’t break them.

  16. Hi There

Thanks for this huge choice of good quality sites, however with so many choices I feel a little bit overwhelmed. Could you perhaps advise me which theme would be best for a site where I want community members to list some services and other community members can search for some services? It should have a submission form and search function. Any guidance please? Thanks!

  17. Great collection Aigars.

I had a chance to play around with Social Learner from Boss themes not so long ago and it looked awesome. Shame it was for a friend. I would love to get my hands on it again. 🙂

  18. Ashita Jain says:

    HI!

I am looking for a social networking theme with looks similar to Facebook. In addition to posting posts, members can follow other members, join communities, share files with other members.

Also for each activity, they will be awarded some activity points which can be redeemed offline.

Other preferable features include – polls, bookmarks, tasks, schedule calendar, etc.

Can you please suggest a theme which has most of these functions.

    Regards,
    Ashita Jain

    1. Ashita,

Any of above listed themes will get the job done for you since these themes are based on BuddyPress which is an amazing social platform. There are load of awesome plugins available for BuddyPress that will help you to add extra functionality on top of this platform.

  19. Nice article, what about DIvi theme and BuddyPress integration?

  20. Great article. I am looking to develop a site for users to share videos and then receive feedback on their videos either directly, and privately or in an open forum where others can also provide feedback. Can you recommend any particular themes that would accomodate this? I would also like to add courses at a later date.

    Thanks in advance.

    Stu

    1. Stu,

These are BuddyPress themes and all of theme has the same functionality. They are all works the same but they look completely different from one another. Make sure to check some sample BuddyPress sites to understand if this platform is the right one for you and then you can proceed with theme research.

  21. Hello,

I am building a charitable website, but need it to be a community whereby community members can create profiles and match needs based on location, interests, and cause. The site should allow members to post updates on their cause, and the followers see their updates. I thought a dating theme or a listing directory theme would work best, but does it allow the end user to blog updates on their profile? Not sure I am even asking the right questions.

  22. Hi Aigars,

Thank you very much for the really nice article, so many good themes there.
Look there is something I would like to ask you, I am planning to run a online platform for a specific industry, I am in the trial period with Divi and I really like it, I am also very interested in the X theme. Before starter with Divi I checked some BuddyPress themes before but I was not very convinced on using them however after reading your article I am having a second thought.

Some of the main features of my platform are:

    Chat/videochat/messages/forums.
    Online learning
    Podcast/Videocast
    Business directory
    Classifieds
    CV upload
Lots of Video (planning to use Wistia)
    Multi language

My question here is, do you think is convenient to keep working with Divi to create the shiny site and content and using the plugins for all the site’s features or you would suggest me to chose a theme like Kleo? Probably theme like Kleo or Buddyboss would save time and learning curve, I am really new in WordPress and I have not code abilities at all, I am actually taking a course at WPapprentice.

I have already delayed part of the project due to not being sure in which theme to get started, hopefully your opinion can help me to figure out what’s the best option and get started.

Thanks again for the great job at Colorlib articles and the free themes.
    Miguel

    1. Miguel,

You should stick with Divi as it also works with BuddyPress. It doesn’t have extra features that Kleo has on top of BuddyPress but those are very specific and I don’t think you will need them anyways. The main thing is that Divi works with BuddyPress and you will get the benefits of both tools.

      1. Hi Aigars,

Thanks for replying my comment, I am very glad to read your suggestion.
Just one last question, how could I give a buddy & bbpress a nice looking like KLEO or Buddyboss have, that can be done only by CSS or you can suggest another way? I am trying to figure out if that would be too expensive and it would be worthy.

        Regards,
        Miguel

  23. James Katt says:

The biggest problem I have with this list is that other than the Buddyboss themes, the other themes are extremely expensive if you want to create a website to generate income. The standard Themeforest license is only good for websites where customers can access all of the site for free. If you charge for your content, then you need the extended license which costs $3000+ PER SITE. This is an astronomical cost for a theme.

    1. James,

That’s not how extended licence works. You can use regular licence for ecommerce website without any restrictions. You can sell products, services, subscription fees or whatever. You only need extended licence if you are building a product (an app) that you will be selling further. So for example you buy a template, then you proceed to build some custom platform for it and then sell it to your customers. That’s where extended licence cops into play. In 99.9% of the cases extended licence is not needed and regular licence will be enough.

        Algars,

I hope you are right. But reading themeforest’s FAQ about licenses notes the following:

        QUOTE:
Which license do I need for an end product that is only accessible to paying users?
If the end users need to pay to see the end product, you need an Extended License. There can be more than one end user as long as there is only one end product. Example: A website that requires money before you can access the content

        THEREFORE:
If you want to create a paying membership website using any themeforest/envato theme, then you have to pay the $3000 extended license for each website you create.

  25. PETRUS EVELYN MARTINS says:

I’d like a social network for a gym. I was using BuddyApp but it doesn’t look good, specially in mobiles. People usually have some difficult to use its features, also it’s not very beautiful. I want something that is cool to see and modile friendly.

  26. PETRUS EVELYN MARTINS says:

Do you know any theme that I can receive notifications in my cell phone after any changes in the website (for example: If I’m using a BuddyPress theme and then someone comments in my photos or reply a comment, than I’ll receive a notification just like in Facebook)

  27. In this which is the fastest one? also i want to know a template like facebook with social forum , user blog post and question answers,

    1. Anz,

I can highly recommend Kleo theme which loads fast and has the best set of features.

  28. HI,

I am looking to develop a website where registered users to share their own YouTube videos (max YouTube size) and then receive feedback, either directly, or privately.

The main feature/goal is that they can only publish YouTube videos.

Can you recommend any themes/Plugin’s that can do this?

    R:
    Jeff

    1. Jeff,

Unfortunately, I haven’t heard of any theme or plugin that limits content sharing ability to just WordPress. However, it would be a fairly simple implementation. You can find skilled devs on Upwork that will certainly help you

  29. I am looking to purchase a buddypress theme for a social community and would like to feature profiles, types of members, locations, etc. Ideally, the layout would allow for thumbnails with minimal information (that can then be expanded to more in-depth information about a member)……is this something all buddypress themes handle with web developer customization. Most of the layouts seem to be articles, blogs or writing oriented. Any suggestions?

    1. Most of the BuddyPress themes are basically WordPress themes that supports BuddyPress because demand for BP themes is way too small. Some serious BuddyPress themes you can find created by Boss Themes.

  30. Hello,

like very much your theme suggestions.

I have a site running in which users are demanding a community. Unfortunately the theme I am using is not compatible with buddy press. So i am thinking on developing he community as a subdomain in order to give the users what they want and perhaps monetize it in the future.

Maybe it will be hard to integrate the community as a part of the main site visually, but I like the actual theme I am using and I guess I will be using Kleo as the community area. Any advice?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Kleo is a great theme and I see no reason why not to use for a community setup as a subdomain.

      1. I purchased Kleo and it is very slow (and I haven’t even added users yet), is there something I should be doing to optimize it? Also, it doesn’t feel really responsive for mobile, which is where it will be mainly used. Do you have any suggestions for a speedy mobile buddy theme that allows the features of Kleo plus chat/messaging, notifications, and extended profiles?

        1. Hello Angelia,

It does work perfectly fine on mobile as we have tested it on several different devices. Regarding performance, I would recommend to follow these steps. Themes are never the bottleneck of the performance and in most of the cases hosting is. Therefore, I would recommend to consider using Kinsta which we use ourselves as well. They offer a managed WordPress hosting meaning that they will take care of performance optimization for your website.

  31. My mind really goes for the socialize theme. I really love the theme look.

What I am afraid of is the theme speed, and if there are bugs on the theme. I can’t deal with the headache of a slow theme with loads of bugs and there is no way you can know without purchasing it.

I see you highly recommend Kleo, but for one reason or the other, I don’t just like the look.

So, do you also really recommend socialize, in terms of speed and ease of set up?

    1. When it comes to BuddyPress themes the number one choice is Kleo. More info about this theme is available here.

    Hi,
It will be great if you can add our BuddyPress theme BuddyX to your awesome list.
Its free version is available on WordPress highly popular among real BuddyPress users.
BuddyX also has support for selling online courses using LearnDash, lifterLMS, and TutorLMS
Multivendor Marketplace support for Dokan and WC Vendors.

    Thanks
